Well, we are well and truly into pre-season mode right across the club and it has been fantastic to see the involvement from players, coaches, parents and supporters so early in the season.

The heat has been an issue and I am grateful to all the coaches who have adjusted training sessions to cater for this prolonged spell of very hot weather. The players safety and health is always the No 1 priority at Valley Fort.

I had the privilege of running a HKRU certified course for U5 – U8 parents last Sunday and was amazed at over 30 participants who wanted to learn more and be more involved in their son or daughters’ rugby journey. I look forward to our next session in two weeks’ time.

I want to thank everyone in the VF community for their understanding last week around a couple of the Youth sessions that could not be scheduled or were cancelled due to Covid-19 protocols. This may unfortunately occur again this season, but I encourage any players who suspect any symptoms to NOT attend training until symptom free.

As we approach festivals or friendlies with other clubs the coaching will ramp up the contact element of sessions. It is mandatory that any player taking part in contact activities wears a gum shield. There will be no exceptions for this. They are provided by the club so please contact the respective manager of you child’s team and you will be provided with one.

We look forward to the first social gathering of the year at the Hong Kong Cricket Club on September 24. What should be a great night of fun it is also an opportunity to get together away from the pitch and get to know each other better. I hope many of you can make it.

As mentioned earlier we are heading toward friendly fixtures in the next few weeks and the coaches have been doing a great job developing the skills base needed for each particular age group. With this in mind attendance at training becomes more important so that all players and at a similar stage of the training process.

Lets hope the weather cools a little soon and we can all continue to work hard and enjoy this wonderful game.

Yours in Rugby,

JC
