Welcome to the U14 Boys team! All players eligible for this age group should have been born in 2006.
The U14 Boys team is managed and led by parent head coach Philip Lynch and parent team manager Susan Wheeler. Rugby coaching and skill development is run by our Valley SocGen RFC professional players, Ben Higgins and Harry Sayers. Click on the coach bio’s below to find out more about about each of them!
The U14 Boys team trains from September 2019 to April 2020 for the 2019/20 season. They predominantly train every Thursday evening and Sunday morning at Happy Valley Recreation Ground #6 unless there is a match / tournament or it is a key holiday period. You can find the detailed training and match / tournament schedules below but always check the Valley Fort App with the latest from your coaches.
The U14 league fixtures and tables are managed bu the HKRU. Always check their website for the latest results. Information on this page will be updated as often as possible to reflect the HKRU tables. Current information updated as of 12th December 2019.
Philip has coached at Valley Fort for the past eight years and has four boys playing for the club from U7 to U14. Originally from Scotland he went to the US for University, where he is still involved with the Yale Rugby Club, and has spent the past 20 years in Hong Kong. He brings a fierce passion for quality rugby, fair play and inclusivity. Philip founded and runs a direct investment business focusing on financial services and also sits on the Valley Fort RFC Executive Committee.
Ben grew up in Hong Kong and headed over to the United Kingdom where he attended and represented Exeter University at rugby. He then returned to Hong Kong and plays Prop for Soc Gen Valley RFC. Ben represents Hong Kong in XV's as well plays for the South China Tigers. Ben has a World Rugby Level 1 and 2 coaching qualifications.
Harry came to Valley Soc Gen RFC to play Wing from England where he played for Canterbury RFC and U20 England Counties. Since arriving here in 2018 Harry has been selected and played for the Hong Kong National team in both XV's and Sevens as well as the South China Tigers. Harry has a World Rugby Level 1 and 2 coaching qualifications.
Susan is performing the team manager role for the third year running having progressed through the years with this age group. She has three sons with two playing rugby, one playing in the U14 age group and one in U10's. Also originally from Scotland, she has lived in Hong Kong for the past three years having moved from the USA in 2016. Susan sits on the Valley Fort RFC Executive Committee, is an IT professional, mother of three boys and loves to drink wine.
