Welcome to the U16 Boys team! All players eligible for this age group should have been born in 2004 – 2005.
The U16 Boys team is managed and led by parents Steve Mederios and Becky Maltas. Rugby coaching and skill development is run by our Director of Rugby, Deano Herewini and Valley SocGen RFC professional player, Whiria ‘Fidz’ Meltzer. The U16 Boys team trains from September 2019 to April 2020 for the 2019/20 season. They predominantly train every Tuesday evening, Thursday evening and Sunday morning at Happy Valley Recreation Ground #6 unless there is a match / tournament or it is a key holiday period. You can find the detailed training and match / tournament schedules below but always check the Valley Fort App with the latest from your coaches.
The U16 Premiership fixtures and tables are managed bu the HKRU. Always check their website for the latest results. Information on this page will be updated as often as possible to reflect the HKRU tables. Current information updated as of 12th December 2019.
Deano is unarguably the most experienced Pro Coach at Valley Fort and is currently the Head of Rugby Development for the SocGen Valley RFC team. Deano comes from a provincial playing background in New Zealand and has been a successful winning coach at Valley with Championships with the First / Premiership team and the Knights.
Fidz is originally from New Zealand and has played for the All Blacks Sevens Development Team, the Blues Development Team, the Northland Taniwha Mitre 10, Northlands Sevens and North Harbour Development Team. He currently plays Centre / Full Back for Valley SocGen RFC and is working towards his Level 2 World Rugby coaching qualification after having achieved Level 1.
Steve has been a resident in HK 14 years and a member of the Valley Fort Rugby Club for 3 years with two boys playing in the U16 and U19 age groups. He brings a multisport background at the collegiate level from the United States and a passion for developing a teaming culture of players, coaches, and parents.
Becky is a long time member of the Valley Fort community with her two boys progressing all the way through the club from U5's and now play U14 and U16. She is a very experienced team manager, having been in this role with the Boys in the U11, U12, U13 and U14 age groups. Becky also enjoys a Corona on a Friday night in Smugglers, Stanley!
