Welcome to the U9 Boys team! All players eligible for this age group should have been born in 2011.
The U9 Boys team is managed and led by parents Terence ‘Monty’ Montgomery and Nick Ritter. The core rugby coaching and skill development is run by two of our Valley SocGen RFC professional players, Ruan Duplooy and Peni Latu. They are also all well supported by a core group of parent volunteer coaches. Click on the coaches bio’s below to find out more about Monty, Nick, Ruan and Peni!
The U9 Boys team trains from September 2019 to April 2020 for the 2019/20 season. They typically train every Sunday morning at Aberdeen Sports Ground on the Southside unless there is a Minis Rugby Festival or it is a key holiday period. You can find the detailed training and Minis Rugby Festival schedules below but be sure to check the Valley Fort App for all the latest updates from your coaches.
Monty has graduated to Valley Fort coach after playing for Valley RFC 2008-2016 and Hong Kong 2011-2015. He has the World Rugby Level 1 coaching qualification and recently became Vice Chairman of Valley SocGen RFC. Monty has 3 boys (U9, U8 and mascot/U1!) and is looking forward to a fun and successful 2019-2020 season across all levels of this very special club.
From the UK, Nick is the father of two boys, Oliver and Max, who have been with the club for the past 3 years. Helping to coach the U7’s and U8’s this will be Nick’s 3rd year with the squad and will assist Monty in a co-head role. Passionate about sport broadly Nick’s love for the club is built around the life friendships and community that Valley affords. Nick runs the macro trading for a macro hedge fund and outside of sport and family has a love for general aviation.
Ruan is originally from South Africa and currently plays Scrum Half for Valley SocGen RFC. He has played for Hautapau RFC, Chiefs Development Team, Waikatu RU and the South China Tigers. Ruan has his World Rugby Level 1 and 2 coaching qualifications.
Peni is originally from Tonga and plays Centre / Wing for Valley SocGen RFC. This is Peni’s first year with Valley SocGen RFC but comes with a breadth of playing experience including New Zealand U17’s and U20’s, Tongs International and the Hong Kong 10’s team. He is working towards his Level 2 World Rugby coaching qualification after having achieved Level 1.
