Welcome to the U16 Boys team! All players eligible for this age group should have been born in 2005 – 2006 for the 2020/21 season.
The U16 Boys team is coached by our Societe Generale Valley RFC Pro’s Ben Higgins (Forwards) and Whiria ‘Fids’ Meltzer (Backs). The team management and communications are led by by husband and wife dream team, Steve Mederios and Jeannine Mederios. The U16 Boys team trains from September 2020 to April 2020 for the 2020/21 season. They predominantly train every Thursday evening and Sunday morning at Happy Valley Recreation Ground #6 unless there is a match / tournament or it is a key holiday period. There is also some ad hoc Tuesday training and challenges to take part in. Ben grew up in Hong Kong and headed over to the United Kingdom where he attended and represented Exeter University at rugby. He then returned to Hong Kong and plays Prop for Soc Gen Valley RFC. Ben represents Hong Kong in XV's as well plays for the South China Tigers. Ben has a World Rugby Level 1 and 2 coaching qualifications.
Fids is originally from New Zealand and has played for the All Blacks Sevens Development Team, the Blues Development Team, the Northland Taniwha Mitre 10, Northlands Sevens and North Harbour Development Team. He currently plays Centre / Full Back for Valley SocGen RFC and is working towards his Level 2 World Rugby coaching qualification after having achieved Level 1.
Steve has been a resident in HK 15 years and a member of the Valley Fort Rugby Club for 4 years with two boys playing in the U16 and U19 age groups. He brings a multisport background at the collegiate level from the United States and a passion for developing a teaming culture of players, coaches, and parents.
