# Welcome to U8!

Welcome to the U8 Boys and Girls team! All players eligible for this age group should be born in 2014 for the 2021/22 season.

The U8 team is led by parent Head Coach Tim Pottle. Tim leads the weekly training sessions and coaches the players as well as is responsible for the administration and communications . Click on Tim’s bio below to find out more about him and how to contact him with any questions about the U8 program.

The U8 team trains from Sunday 5th September 2021 to April 2022 for the 2021/22 season. They train every Sunday morning at Hong Kong International School, from 8am – 9:30am, unless there is a Minis Rugby Festival or it is a key holiday period. Buses also run along the Southside on a Sunday morning to take players and parents there and back. Your head coach will have details of the bus schedule.

Tim POTTLE U8 Head Coach

I've been part of VFRC since 2018, when my son started with the U5s. I stepped into the head coach role, for the U7s, in last year's highly disrupted season!
I'm from the UK, and while my rugby-playing finished at U14 level, I continued to play, manage and coach teams across a number of sports, including hockey, American Football, and since living in Hong Kong, dragonboat! We have a fierce rugby rivalry in our family, as my wife comes from New Zealand, but we usually manage to keep things civil when big games are on. I've loved watching our group of players develop from their U5 days, and I'm looking forward to helping to guide them through this formative U8 season. While I aim to have structured training sessions, designed to bring out the best in our young players, and our coaches, our first rule of rugby remains "have fun". Encouraging young players from different backgrounds and abilities will hopefully allow them to develop sporting skills and habits that will carry them far into a fit and healthy future.
